Also answering Chalo's "what's the attraction of 650c?" question with
these comments-- "they work" for the use they're being put to. Choice
of brands and sizes is limited but again, there's good "road" stuff
available in the size.

If we were hammering the gravel roads again, there might be a problem
with not having a big enough tire ("rim protector") but I really don't
think so from past experience; point is moot at this time anyhow g.

For constant use on bad surfaces, city commuting, whatever? Choose
another wheel size. Easy enough; the road bike, 650c or 700c, might
not be the best choice for "where you need fat tires" riding anyhow.

My question isn't simply "why not use a 559-25 tire?", but also why
not make those 20mm "rim protectors" for the far better-supported ISO
559 rim? It has almost the same radius, but a lot more versatility.

I took a quick look-- again, "we're" not using 20mm tires-- for 559
tires. Didn't see "racer" tires in that size, tires like the 23mm
Conti and Michelin items mounted on the 650c wheels "we" have. I'd
think the tires we do have would work even on the dirt/gravel roads we
once attacked with a false sense of immortality on any Sunday, given
rider weight. No doubt, 25's would be better yet; as I said, the point
is moot pending a session in the time machine or other re-invigoration
of the desire to go out and get silly:
