Police refuse to chase bike thieves
Extracts from local Basingstoke newspaper report:
******** POLICE REFUSE TO CHASE BIKE THIEVES When two heartbroken teenagers asked five Basingstoke bobbies to help them chase thieves who had stolen their treasured bikes the policemen said they were too busy on another call. Police have since explained to the boys angry parents that they are not allowed to chase bike thieves in case they fall off and are injured. Giving chase into the street, the boys appealed to a group fof five police officers to help... Fuming mum, Vivian, said "It is absolutely disgraceful. Two girls, total strangers in the street, ran after the thieves who rode straight past the police but they just stood there and did nothing!" And she was left gobsmacked when police came to her house on Monday and told her they couldn't have chased the robbers, because the youths could have sued the police had they fallen off their bikes - allegedly blaming the media for changing the way the police work. A police spokesperson said: "We are currently investigating this complaint. Officers have to carry out a dynamic risk assessment at every incident to assess the danger to themselves and anyone else." ******** John B |

So even on the rare occasion when you do see police on the street they do bugger all when a crime is committed right under their noses. Disgraceful. -- Paul Boyd http://www.paul-boyd.co.uk/ |

Parking enforcement has recently been handed over to the local council here and there was a big photograph in the paper of the new wardens in their distinctive uniforms so we knew who they were. Two said wardens passed me on Tuesday after walking past a van parked in the footpath completely blocking it off - the way they were alowly strolling along chatting happily gave me the impression they weren't busy attending to another call.... -- peter Cheap train tickets database http://www.petereverett.co.uk/tickets/ Email sent to this address is generally deleted upon arrival Visit website if you want to contact me |
