Default Vrienden Van Het Platteland

Roos (or anyone else who knows), would I be correct in translating the name
of this team as 'friends from the flat lands'? I ask because they've been
doing rather well in the mountains recently...

Not completely, though it is possibly a bit of a play on words.

"Platte land" literally is "flat lands"

"platteland" as a single term is normally used to indicate the rural
areas, or sometimes taken as 'anything to do with farms'.

The first URL I got with Google http://www.vriendenvanhetplatteland.nl/ is
some sort of farmers non-profit PR organisation. Looks like they are
sponsoring the team.

'friends of the countryside', with a distinct agricultural overtone
