What is the best book for up to date advice to give to a new cyclist?
I'm thinking it needs to cover all the basics with a position
statement on drugs, on using power meters and so forth.
Suggestions please?
Cycle Sport - Dr Peter Konopka Over twenty years old but apart from superhydrating (which it doesn't cover), really does cover training development and racing without bogging you down in deep discussion on physiology. The use of drugs is up to the individual, but usually cannot be financially support ed long term. It's therefore unlikely to be of any satisfying long term benefit. Caffiene and glucose are available, economically viable and in the most part fully legal. The use of genuine herbal aids (remedies)and vitamin supplementation can help those not performing as well as was hoped. Power meters are expensive toys for most, use a speedometer and measure pace against other performing riders or with time trials. If you can feel your legs hurting, you obviously aren't putting your back into it. It's meant to hurt when racing, but not necessarily so when training.
