A couple of questions from a semi-noob
I have a couple of questions.
Ive noticed that some people let the air out of their tires after a ride, why? Does anyone shave "hidden" areas? Ive noticed on some longer rides the combination of sweat, hair, and friction is very uncomfortable and sometimes results in a little bit of cutting in the "sit" area. Im not fond of the idea of taking a razor to neather regions but im also not fond of the current situation. Is there any other solution? I wear quality shorts and no undies. |

As for where to shave ... you do your thing, I'll do mine. I shave where there's the potential for road rash. Never had it and never heard of it in the nether regions. But I guess you never know. At least you'll be ready if a porn producer comes calling. As for letting the air out, I think some people believe it takes pressure off the rims and enhances their longevity. I think that's a myth, but I can't say for sure. The one good reason for doing it is if you're transporting the bike on a hot day. Drop a set of bike tires onto a hot metal bike rack tray or onto a hot bedliner of a pickup truck and the heat will expand the air in the tires quite rapidly and can make them blow. I've seen it happen. And when they blow at full pressure like that, they usually deform the rim pretty badly. Bob C. |

"GABIKE" wrote: I've noticed that some people let the air out of their tires after a ride, why? People used to do that with silk and cotton tubulars, though I doubt there was any good reason for it. Supposedly it was good for the tire. At $40/tire some folks would do anything if there was a chance they'd get more life out of them. See: http://draco.acs.uci.edu/rbfaq/FAQ/8b.18.html Does anyone shave "hidden" areas? Never heard of anyone doing that. Art |
