Very surprising that no plea bargain was reached, but it's not too late.

Not surprising when you consider the defendant is a whacko-nut.

Still, you'd think his lawyer would have been able to convince him to
accept a plea bargain if one was offered. Could be the D.A. sees this as
such an open and shut case that he/she wasn't willing to offer much. The
fact that the mountain bikers were violating U.C.'s rules on bikes on
trails is no defense. Nor is the fact that he probably only intended to
scare them away and not do bodily harm. The fact that he admitted
contacting one of the victims with the saw means that he can't claim
that he never touched them. Should be an interesting trial.

Maybe the plea deal included a ban on Usenet posting?

.... OR perhaps a year of community service as mountain bike mechanic?
