Default HiWheels, NBG & Mayors to Showcase Bicycle Heaven

For Immediate Release Contact: Martin Krieg 415-240-4712

What: The 2006 Mayors' Ride for the National Bicycle Greenway

Whe Folsom Powerhouse - Lower Sunrise - State Capitol - West
Sacramento Civic Center

When: Sunday, July 23: | 9AM Folsom | 10:30 Rancho Cordova | 2:45 PM
Sacramento | 3:30 PM West Sacramento

Why: Four Parkway Mayors proclaim Sunday, July 23 National Bicycle
Greenway Day

To be able to safely and pleasurably ride a bicycle from Boston to San
Francisco is one of the main goals of the National Bicycle Greenway
(NBG). Folsom Mayor Andy Morin, city officials and local bike and
American River Parkway (ARP) advocates will meet NBG riders and scouts
at the world's first long distance power plant, the Folsom Powerhouse,
to send this vision to American River communities as far as West
Sacramento. Making sure former bike store owner, Scott Campbell (54),
who left Boston Mayor Tom Menino's send off on April 28 tells the world
that his city is on the inaugural route will be W Sacramento Mayor Chris
Cabaldon who is biking the whole day's relay. Because of the historical
precedent set by the Lincoln Highway of 1914 that passed through this
region, Campbell also thinks his group's Greenway can reverse the
downward spiral of unabated car sprawl that many experts agree the
Lincoln brought to America.

Riding a show stopping 19th Century bike and making sure they make all
their receptions on time will be famed HiWheel cyclist and Rancho
Cordova resident Jacques Graber. Graber will also be leading other
HiWheel cyclists including San Diego celebrity, Marty Wilson, Sacramento
bike coordinator, Ed Cox, HiWheel replica manufacturers, Greg and Adam
Barron, and NBG Director and "Awake Again" author Martin Krieg.

Other local cyclists will join in the fun, including Wai Chong from the
Folsom Area Bike Advocates and Jack Martin, aka Captain Hydrate, of
Folsom based Gomber Hydration Systems. Like he's done annually for the
last two years now, Jack will be towing a massive trailer filled with
ice and cold drinks for the riders.

As Scott spreads the NBG word, he feels he will also be "helping the
American River communities to become a cycling Mecca the likes of which
are unknown in the world". He says that "As more and more cyclists and
their families discover the unparalleled biking found on the APR; as the
word gets out about a bikeway without the cars and buildings and noise
of the city that lies just beyond, the ARP two wheel heaven will prove
the NBG notion that a bicycle based economy can rule the world".
