Lies of the AHZ 1: Confounding factors

... The AHZ (anti-helmet zealot) Frank Krygowski wrote: the study fail[s] to properly account for confounding factors. This is code for mangling the data through rosetinted glasses until it suits Krygowski's purposes -- and then he still lies about it, as he lied about the South Australian and Crocker studies. Maybe he can get some stimulus booty to produce a play about it: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/op...#ixzz11WvcLjrP Bill "link says it all" S. |

Oh, and the link doesn't "say it all". According to the NSF link the award amount is $171K, the play is not just about climate change, and much of the money goes for topical education outreach. Given that our students rank near dead last on science scores among industrialized countries, I think it's a good investment. http://informalscience.org/project/show/1873 "The Civilians, Inc., a theatre company in Brooklyn, NY, is producing The Great Immensity, a touring play with songs and video that explores our relationship to the environment, with a focus on critical issues of climate change and biodiversity conservation." "Project deliverables include the development and testing of online content, podcasts, and videos as well as special community education and outreach efforts in each community where the play is staged. Performances will be accompanied by post-performance panel discussions with the artists, local scientists and policy makers. After the completion of the initial tour, the play will be published, licensed, and made available to other theaters to produce independently." |

In case your beef is simply with the topic of climate change (there, I said it), consider this (approved in prior administration): Communicating Climate Change (C3) Initial Amendment Date: September 24, 2008 divider line Latest Amendment Date: June 30, 2010 divider line Award Number: 0813135 Awarded Amount to Date: $2998311 "The Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), in collaboration with the Yale Project on Climate Change and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, is conducting a three-year project whose goal is to build the capacity of twelve science centers as well as of twelve NSF-funded Long-term Ecological Research Centers (LTER) for the purpose of engaging the public in climate change science." |
