Comical Moment (x3)
Trying to find my desired route out of Lichfield, I was passed by a
trio of cyclists heading in the opposite direction to me. Then I decided that I was going the wrong way and did a u-turn. I was then once again passed by the same trio of cyclists going in the opposite direction to me. Then when I happened upon a roundabout which should not have been there, I once again did a u-turn, and was once again passed by the same trio of cyclists going in the opposite direction to me. But it turned out that getting lost has it's benefits - I found a great point on the way to Wall which shows the splendour of Lichfield cathedral, towering over its more modern neighbours... www.artybee.net/lichcath.jpg (58k) -- Amazon: "If you are interested in 'Asimov's I-Robot', you may also be interested in 'Garfield - The Movie'. ... erm, how do they figure that one out? |

Ah - the new bypass, eh? What a pain in the rear that is... That looks like it was taken from the hill on the walsall road, just South of Leamonsley - near the Three Tuns. You'll see an outcrop in the rock on the Wall side, there used to be a pub and a couple of cottages built into that. I personally favour the view from pipe hill, where the Fosseway (the one with the level crossing) meets the back lane into wall - cracking view. You can see 8 towers/spires on a good day. Another good spot over that way is at Wall Church looking south. If one takes the grass track down the side of the church and enters the side gate, the churchyard is terraced into 2 by a 5 foot wall. At the end of a summer day, at sunset, to sit on the still warm wall, looking over the roman remains and on to sutton is rather pleasureable. Unfortunately, the view is marred slightly by the M6 troll road, but it's still excellent. Tim -- Sent from Birmingham, UK... TimDunne at Blueyonder.co.uk 'Is justice just ice? I don't remember seeing the Three Tuns, but it is indeed where you state. I'm finding cycling much more interesting since I decided to stop going out with the local CTC. I like cycling alone in any case - since I can stop any time I like, and take photos or drink coffee at my leisure. CTC tend to have a rather limited itinerary. I suppose the logical and polite thing to do would be for me to offer to lead a ride. However, now I am going further afield I am rediscovering places from my childhood (I used to live in Burntwood) - and the junction you spotted as the photo vantage point was what I used to call "Rollercoaster Junction"; At 5 years of age, sitting in the back of a C reg Vauxhall Viva (C reg being ABC 123 C format), and swinging around the tight right hand hairpin was such fun. I even doubled back to ride it on my bike this afternoon! I personally favour the view from pipe hill, where the Fosseway (the one with the level crossing) meets the back lane into wall - cracking view. You can see 8 towers/spires on a good day. Another place which I remember but have yet to rediscover... -- Amazon: "If you are interested in 'Asimov's I-Robot', you may also be interested in 'Garfield - The Movie'. ... erm, how do they figure that one out? |
