Why 52-42-30?

I forgot that the rings will be out of phase most of the time anyway.
You can't drop a roller where you want it, unless you always shift at
the same spots, or the pins catch and bend the chain the right way...
Both of which I think might be possible (I think force of habit can
"find" the right spot, and computer design can set the pins
optimally).
