No doubt we will be told he had to swerve to avoid an unlit cyclist or Nugents will say he had only used a 'legal' recreational drug so no harm done.

Apparently people don't drive on the pavement... A good demonstration to
the moaners who claim that cyclists are evil because "you don't see
drivers using the pavement": street furniture tends to get in the way.

Obviously the driver didn't mean to do it and after expressing remorse
and paying a £60 fine he will be free to continue to drive and put his
personal convenience above the comfort and safety of pedestrians.
