Advice on 700C rim and question regarding Mavic Reflex Clincher 700C rims
I have an older bike (SOMEC) that has two Mavic Reflex Clincher 700C rims. They are 32 hole SUP /UB/ CONTROL and also have the following code on them 622 13 6005 TIB. Both are bronzish in color. What do these codes mean??
One of these rims (rear) recently failed and I'd like to explore several options: 1. Find someone who has a pair of these rims that they want to sell. 2. Get another pair of Mavic Open Sport rims in a similar color. 3. Get recommendations on the best set of 700C rims for the least $$. Also, I have a Campy Record 8S hub on this wheel and I've been told I could just zip-tie the spoke pairs together and transfer to the new rim...is that true or do I have to get new spokes with the right length?? I'm not knowledgeable about these sorts of things. Email me privately at thanks in advance. Adrian You wouldn't drive a car without a rear view mirror, so why would you drive a bicycle without one?? |

Get the correct 292mm spokes with your new rim. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |

I think the Reflex has the same ERD as the Open Pro (605?), so that is always an option, albeit an expensive one. The Velocity rims have smaller ERDs, and if you go that route, you will need new spokes. -- Jay Beattie. |

If such a transfer is done, you'll have a perfectly functional wheel, but you'll have crossing spokes above the valve, instead of parallel spokes, as is standard. (I think that Velocity's that way because they're Australian - their drains swirl the wrong way and all.) |

Since Ern Malley was a practical joke by poets anyway, the jazz suite was at a third or fourth remove from any tenuous original reality (see my review of the paintings in Nation Review c1974) and I couldn't tell the difference between the music as played forwards Down Under or backwards on the Fens. All of this is a roundabout way of saying we should really do our Christian best to excuse Australian cyclists when they seem more than slightly weird. It's the geomagnetics that got them. So I wonder if Aussies also have left handed steak and bread slicing knives (with tooth undercut on the left face of the blade.) Australians eat like civilized people. They hold the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right hand throughout the meal. They convey food to their mouths with the fork in the left hand. They do not, like some other colonials, cut up all their food first, then switch hands on the fork and use it upside down like a spoon to shovel in food. Emily Post |

-snip rim chirality-
wrote: That was formerly known as left and right handed rims, most rims being right handed (that is,if the spoke pairs across the stem were part o a propeller blade wrapped between them, it would be a right handed one.) Formerly that was accidental by starting the spoke drill pattern at the wrong place. I am not aware that anyone regularly (intentionally) makes left haded rims. In the classic era, the two leading brands, Mavic and Fiamme, were drilled inverse to each other. Even down to today, both patterns are concurrent.
