UPS Shipping Claim Help
This may be a bit off topic but I would appreciate anyone's help in
dealing with UPS on a claim. About four weeks ago I shipped a bike that I sold to a buyer and in the process the frame was damaged and cannot be repaired. I did the packing and purchased additional insurance for $500 to cover the frame as other parts were sent and insured separately. We went through the claim process and after an investigation, naturally UPS comes to a decision that the frame was not packed properly. Well one can certainly make an argument as UPS is doing that if there is any damage to something that is shipped that it was not packed properly. Does anyone have any thoughts on what legal authority or strategy I could involve to attempt to get some remedy from UPS? |

(clip) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I used to work for a company that shipped dozens of packages daily. Out people knew how to pack things--yet UPS came back with that response every time--it was their way of shaking off the easy ones. Don't let them off the hook. Ask for an explanation, and an authoritative answer from someone up the ladder. We have seen drivers throw, dro, or walk on packages. |

Leo's right. Don't drop the issue. UPS will shirk responsibility for
problems whenever they can. I realize this doesn't help your present situation but for future reference, avoid UPS at all costs. They *may* be fine when everything is hunky dorey but, not only are they horrible when the chips are down, they often cause the screw ups. FedEx all the way. Chris - been in your shoes a lot of times (with UPS) ... now I refuse to deal with them or any company that would force me to deal with them. p.s. I hope you get the situation resolved to your satisfaction. I understand the frustration you must be going through... wrote in message oups.com... Never had a problem with UPS.
Following is a link that gives a representative sample of experiences with UPS to Canada. This matches my experience as well - painfully learned. I do not buy from anyone that ships UPS. USPS is the definitely the way to go for cross-border. http://www.epinions.com/bsrv-Office_...ist/pp_~3#list |

Ah - yes. I should point out as well that I live in Canada and it's
specifically been UPS to/from Canada that's given me grief. The US Postal Service has been FANTASTIC for crossborder shipments. Who knew?! Outside the US, they deal with whatever the national postal service is, and mostly, the package delivery guys from the national-formerly-government-postal-service are as good as anything fedex or UPS or DHL will have -- at least that's my experience.
