There is quality ratings in MTB componentry specifically the deraileurs
and brake components and hubs, the rating scheme is used for all those
items and is below. .

The ranking is in order from lowest to highest.

Shimano:
------------------
5) Altus (junk)
4) Deore (suitable for ordinary to low level intermediate riding)
3) Deore LX (above average for intermediate to advanced riding)
2) Deore XT (high end componentry with high precision for intermediate
to advanced riding)
1) Deore XTR (high end componentry with ultimate precision for
intermediate to advanced riding)

SRAM:
-------------------
10)X1 Lower quality bikes have components in this ranking, bikes that
typically aren't used for serious MTBing
9) X2
8) X3
7) X4
6) X5
5) X6
----------------------------- those below this line are for
intermediate to advanced riding
4) X7
3) X8 -
2) X9 - same performance as X0 but weighs more
1) X0 - the elite, for advanced riding, incredibly light and precise

Shimano certainly makes lower quality components than this. They make some
that have no product line whatsoever, or are labeled "SIS". THOSE are
absolute junk, not even fit for riding around the neighborhood. Altus may
be OK for very non-technical riding.

They also have (or have had) an "Acera" line, which I think is slightly
better than Altus.

It's not about the bike, but the rider. Even junk components can take
you riding on very technical trails. I did all of Moab's Slickrock and
the Poison Spider trail with a low-end POS pink-and-green Ross Mt.
Hood. No problems('cept we got a little lost on the Poison Spider, and
ran out of water. No prob, as Utah then decided to rain on us.). Tom

Good call. Aren't those all junk? Like "Don't last long under intense
usage"? Not even worth mentioning?

And are those all even MTBing or road biking components?
