Ok, smartass, try living in Lafayette for a week without a car.
Southern Comfort my ass.
Where is Lafayette and why would I even want to remotely consider
living there?

Tu ne sais rien de ta patrie.
Where is Lafayette Canada, then?

Sorry, my bad. I was referring to Lafayette, La. I know quite a bit
about francophone Canada. I watch Téléjournal nearly every day on the
French channel TV5.

I think probably Atlanta is the only Southern city with a decent transit
system.

I found it kind of crappy. And Jesus, I hear that MARTA acronym joke
way too much down there. The whites almost seem smug about it.

Duh. Not enough snow is more of a problem. Better to turn on the
heat in the winter than to turn on the AC in the summer. I don't even
have AC in my house (but it's nice in the car).

You may not like A/C in the house, but my annual A/C bill is around
$1200. How are those fuel oil doing? Next year look for over $4
delivered. Living in a place with a declining population helps though.
Not as much fuel wasted sitting in traffic.

That is one advantage of living in a place where the population is

I was there last summer in such a rain storm that it washed the
expressway away. 6" hunks of concrete were washing down the road.
Pretty amazing to see. The infrastructure didn't remain in place.
But they rebuilt it pretty quick.

I didn't say the infrastructure would last forever. Eventually the
number of taxpayers decline to the point that the ones remaining can't
afford to keep up what is left.

Binghamton, Rochester and Buffalo are shells of their former hey-day selves.
That's not something to brag about.

Never once will I bitch about the subway or busses or Verizon in the
tunnels. *Never once will I have the commute from hell.
If yu live where no one else wants to live, then there is no problem at
all. Check out the midwest US. People have been moving out of there for
decades. Lots of ghost towns. Makes for a wonderful commute, but to what
job? Those are gone, too.
butbutbut, we have lots of Holstein-Friesian cows! What more could one want?

Yeah, there are lots of Holsteins around. *I think one won the blue
ribbon at the county fair last year. *A week later is was in the
grocery store. *The ribbon and a photo of it receiving a ribbon was
right there in the meat case.

Holstein-Friesians are a dairy breed, not a beef breed. Sheesh!

I heat with electric. We have a muni-electric company that buys
mostly hydro. Cheaper than oil or gas.

The Holstein-Friesian has been bred for maximizing milk production.
Raising them for beef is possible, but silly.

Leave it to Pat to advocate killing the milk cow for a hamburger.

Dairy cows are indeed slaughtered, but by the time they are, they won't
be winning any prizes. I wonder if Pat pays much attention to what goes
on around where he lives. Maybe, if he got out of his car, held his nose
and talked to the dairy farmers, he might learn something.

Without hydro, you would be getting kllled.

I heat with element heat, too. My rate is 12.5 cents a KWH (after adding
all fees and taxes and dividing by usage). My heating bill was less than
$100 this year since it has been very mild. Yours?

Ummm, maybe I learned it from walking through the county fair and
looking in the meat case at the store. Remember, I'm the one who
actually lives in a rural area -- the county fair, the tribe's Pow
Wow, the Falling Leaves Festival are all part of the community. In
this area, they put the picture of the cow in the case next to the
meat and no one complains about it.
