If you're looking to rent a road bike when you're there, my husband has good things to say about McGhies Ski, Bike and Board at 702-252-8077 (http://www.mcghies.com/); we've both had good experiences with the sister store in Blue Diamond, the Blue Diamond Bike Out Post at 702-875-4820 (www.bikeoutpost.com ) which also rents mountain bikes. They'll have club rides through the month, it looks (http://www.vegasbikeclub.org/ride_schedule.htm), and it's not too surprising -- the weather should be really nice. -- Warm Regards, Claire Petersky please substitute yahoo for mousepotato to reply Home of the meditative cyclist: http://home.earthlink.net/~cpetersky/Welcome.htm Personal page: http://www.geocities.com/cpetersky/ See the books I've set free at: http://bookcrossing.com/referral/Cpetersky |

Las Vegas is very likely the worst city in the western US for biking, and you'll find that reflected in the calibre of bike shops here. You'll do much better finding non-biking souvenirs and trinkets on The Strip. -- "Bicycling is a healthy and manly pursuit with much to recommend it, and, unlike other foolish crazes, it has not died out." -- The Daily Telegraph (1877) |

I was in Las Vegas one time, and I noticed a person used a bike to restock
the "magazines" machines on the street that advertise I guess the prostitutes in Vegas. Tom |

Too much glitter? Too much alcohol, too much high-speed reckless driving, and too much ignorance of the existence of bikers on the part of the ****-Poor-Planning Commission. -- "Bicycling is a healthy and manly pursuit with much to recommend it, and, unlike other foolish crazes, it has not died out." -- The Daily Telegraph (1877) |

I'm from the east coast(CT) and I normally get up at 6 am which was 4 am out there so I did some early morning rides before the traffic got bad. I do remember getting some strange stares at 5am on the elevator with my bike and attire -- tomgaul |

My parents live in Vegas (Henderson NV), and I took my bike out there for a visit. Besides the heat, the traffic is pretty bad. Picture a lot of out of state drivers who lost their money, trying to negotiate roadways in heavy traffic while they had a few drinks (free drinks to gamblers) and driving over the speed limit. Riding a bike in "the city that never sleeps" is suicidal at night, and semi-suicidal in daylight. -tom |
