Default 20th USPRO Philly to be the last one??

Hey

The Wachovia (former First Union; former Core States) USPRO Road
Championships in Philadelphia is celebrating the 20th anniversary
event on Sunday June 6, 2004.
It also should be noted that this event that has outlasted 7-11,
Motorola, Tour de Trump, Tour du Pont, Coors Classic, etc. has no
commitment from sponsors past this year.
The short sighted morons who claim that it should only allow US
riders entry, don't understand how boring that would be. The
international flavor is the main reason 75% of the average people in
the crowd come out to watch. That raises the level of the competition.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. The coverage is mostly local. How many
people outside of Philly or outside of cycling have ever heard of the
event. Why would any sponsor want to step in?
And finally, the UCI of all people, may very well drive the final
spike of death in the heart of the event, anyway. The proposed changes
by the UCI for their Pro Tour plans do not include this race on their
schedule. That, apparently is how you grow the sport of cycling.
So 2005, no Philly, and no US sponsored team in the Top Club, or Tour
de France. So what exactly did the six (nine) US Tour de France
victories get us??

Thanks,
Ronde Champ

The think USPS sponsored a team to improve the state of cycling in the USA?
Do you think ANY sponsor, sponsors a team to improve the state of cycling
in the USA?
Flush out your headgear knucklehead

Did you really expect that they would? Many better races didn't make the
list, either.

When was it announced that CSC wouldn't sponsor a team past this year?
