A plug-in hybrid which would run on batteries for 40-50 miles
would sharply cut the use of oil. The backup engine could be
diesel for even more savings. However, none of this looks like
it will happen in the USA because environmentalists are not being
practical about it and no practical solution seems to appeal to
them as a group. No matter how much progress there is, it is
never good enough. The news cycle is run on a constant scream of
CRISIS, so no solution ever seems possible. You need the next
crisis.
This part of the argument makes sense. The American people have not
been willing to accept electric only cars because they want 400
miles on a charge and that is simply not possible with present
battery technology.

Actually, it's not the American people - it's the Corporation's view
of what the American people want -- which, like the Repugs, is
divorced from Reality.
Totally absurd. If you marketed a cost-effective electric-powered
car that had performance on par with gas-powered, you'd make
gajillions. Corporate schmorporate.

Wrong.
Such a car is not available or I would have one already.

What part of the word "IF" is too complicated for you, Bill? The point is
it's not some Rebublican Corporate Conspiracy dictating what Americans want
(see the comment to which I replied); it's that no one's come up with
something viable (and desirable) yet.

BS (comprehension)

Hey, BS (appropriate initials),
They have done studies and found that the average American thinks he can
have it all, but in reality, you can't. Maybe we should get you an
atomic powered car (with no lead shielding, of course), then you could
get a bazillion miles per pellet. A short range battery only car would
be very viable. Adding a fuel cell or aux. engine would only add weight
and lessen the efficiency, key word is efficiency, not have your cake
and eat it too. Americans are spoiled rotten. Other countries don't have
everyone in a land yacht, so why us????

God you're a moron.

Read the exchange /again/, Bill. You've missed the point at least twice so
far.
