Traffic to be banned from London's Bank junction
First rule of hazard control - REMOVE the hazard.
Well done - a sensible first step. QUOTE: "The busy six-way junction is a blight on the City, polluted and dangerous, it was the site of the death of Ying Tao, a young employee of PricewaterhouseCoopers, in June this year. She was crushed by a construction HGV. "The Corporation has plans to remove through traffic from the junction making it more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists for a 12-month period in order to test the proposition in the way that Mayor Bloomberg did in New York's Times Square," he continued. "If it works it will be made permanent." http://road.cc/content/news/169802-t...-bank-junction |

The "square" is bounded on four sides by throughfares and the are has a couiple of strets which pass through it W-E. Only the non-grid Broadway is closed to traffic (for five blocks) through the immediate area. 7th Avenue (as well as 6th and 8th) is open to traffic, as are every one of the streets in the area (approximately W 45th to W 48th). It will be interesting to see whether this (London) report is in any way accurate, and if there is any truth in it, the route over which the A40 may be alternatively routed. There is no obvious alternative which will not be congested. |

Perhaps rather than banning all cars it would be better to ban HGV usage on certain junctions all of the time and completely during the rush hour. And a 20 mph limit for all vehicles. |

There will still be a few people that don't care about the charge or the noise/air quality, however much it is. |

All because they ride a bloody bicycle. Stupid wants as stupid rides. |
