Default Kilo - How?

How do they do the kilo on a 285 meter track like the one they are using
at World's, given that

1000/285 = 3.5087719 laps?

Do they just do 3.5 laps (997.5 m) and project the time out to 1000 m?

It's 285.714(and whatever else)m - we just refer to it as 285 out of
convenience (same as a 333 track)

I believe the track is exactly 3.5 laps to the kilo and not exactly
285m.

Do you measure from the centre, outside or inside of the track?

Not always.

When I set my Masters World Record, I measured from the top edge.
