Therefore :: I have came to the conclusion that since you don't ride that road this is none of your business, sooooooooooo the subject is closed from my end. Seems to me that folks have been asking you to provide facts that
support your assertion that the gentleman was murdered. You might want to keep in mind that those "rich and powerful" people who live in that area can usually afford lawyers. Libel: a. A written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression. b. A statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt. - Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (Tenth Edition) If you want to take you ball and go home, that's OK with me. Case closed.. Case not closed, quite obviously. As another poster mentioned, you really might want to make more of a point of thinking before you type. |

"Mudflap" wrote in message hlink.net... Last Friday a bike rider was hit and killed by a pickup truck on a road our club rides almost every week. Not many details are known yet but the rider was a very experienced rider and rode often. Here is a message from one of our club leaders. To me this is just another senseless murder. I live in Prescott, AZ ************************ Most riders who have been in town for very long knew Steve Walters and his love of cycling. As most of you now know, Steve was killed on a morning bike ride on Williamson Valley Road Friday morning 10-29-04. There will be a memorial service for him this Thursday evening 11-04-2004 at the old Sam Hill Warehouse that has access from both Sheldon and Granite Streets back by the railroad trestle behind Granite Creek Park. The service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Steve's wife, Ann, lives in Mountain Club with their son, John. There older son, Dan, attends college in New York. An account has been set up in Ann Walter's name at the Stockman's Bank. All deposits to this account will go toward Dan and John's education. There is a separate fund at Prescott College in Steve Walters name. Steve was the Dean of Adult Degree Programs there. These funds would be a great way to support the family in lieu of flowers. My condolences to the family of Mr. Walters. Two things bother me in addition to the obvious sadness I feel that a cyclist was killed. Pick-up trucks don't run over cyclists. Drivers do. Whether careless or malicious, a driver ran over Mr. Walters. It bothers me how anonymous these drivers are allowed to be in reports. It worries me that police do not treat cyclists equally. In many accidents, the auto driver seems to go without any punishment when a cyclist is involved. Were another motor vehicle involved in the same accident, the driver at fault would receive a ticket or worse. Police are paid to enforce the law. When they ignore laws giving us status as legal vehicles, they are not doing their job. |

Many newspapers will not report the name of an accused individual until the person has been arrested or police announce they are looking for an individual. The police often to not release the name of someone they are looking for to try to avoid tipping off the suspect. It worries me that police do not treat cyclists equally.
