Success in Utah!
We did it! It is now the law in Utah that drivers have to give
cyclists three feet of clearance "where conditions permit." It ain't perfect, but in this state, anything is better than nothing. http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_2614573 (Link is likely to work only through about 26 March.) Here in MA, I've yelled "3 feet!" to motorists who passed to close, claiming (to those who asked) it's the law -- although it's not -- but it should be! |

Bill Given that Utah is the most White, Right, republican state I can think of that is a good thing. I have some friends who moved there from California for what should be obvious reasons. Happy, safer, riding to you. Bill Baka I'm surprised it was a problem. If I see a young clean cut young guy on a bike wearing a suit and tie, I can be 99% certain that he's a Mormon missionary, and I see them right here in non-republican, alternative lifestyle Palo Alto. Surely they'll also be giving them a break (brake?) in Utah. Mike |

It's an interesting thought -- since so many Mormon men have had the experience of many months riding around on a bicycle as young men, as motorists, are they more likely to give bicycles greater consideration? Here, too often they are wrong-way or on-the-sidewalk cyclists, but even so. -- Warm Regards, Claire Petersky Home of the meditative cyclist: http://home.earthlink.net/~cpetersky/Welcome.htm Personal page: http://www.geocities.com/cpetersky/ See the books I've set free at: http://bookcrossing.com/referral/Cpetersky |
