A 700C silver triple-channel rim with eyelets. At 570g, it should be
strong. Yet it sells for $34, which seems low. Is there a catch? http://www.interlocracing.com/rims.html -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |

You could save several seconds in a 10k TT by choosing a deep-section wheel such as a Zipp 404. MSRP of the bare Zipp rim is about $700. The likely reason for the low cost of the IRD rim is that the materials are humble but effective, the extrusion tooling was paid off about 18 years ago and subsequently has been moved from Japan to Taiwan to PRC, and all that's left for Interloc to do is print stickers and find customers. So yeah, go for it. -- Ryan Cousineau http://www.wiredcola.com/ "In other newsgroups, they killfile trolls." "In rec.bicycles.racing, we coach them." |

Is there a catch? http://www.interlocracing.com/rims.html Yeah, it's overpriced! ;-) Not familiar with that rim, but a few of us on this group swear by Alex rims for those needing brute strength. A DM18 costs less than 20 bucks, is triple channel and eyeletted. 650g of goodness. Alternately, if you want black with machined sidewalls, get the Adventurer for $25. I've been running DM18s on city scoots for years. Paired with a puffy tire that's relatively light like a 35mm Pasela, you get a tough as hell combo that rides great. Neither will be really happy with less than a 30mm tire, FWIW. |

The Alex rims are good for general use and touring, but might be a little chubby if you're looking for that 50g "edge". Ha! |

The finish quality is alright, they built up well, and I haven't had any durability issues. |

Nah, it's because heavier rims are less cool with the racer types who would pay more for them if they were lighter. Biking is one of those weird markets where less costs more, and more costs less.
