Shimano does carbon now?

Well now I'm wrong. I'm not sure how long this has been out, but the WH-7801-carbon wheelset has carbon rims. Can anybody else think of any other parts that Shimano makes with carts or carbon? That's like saying you are going to buy a Yamaha motorcycle cuz they make really good pianos or skis. shimano, like a lot of Japanese companies, make a lot of different 'stuff'. I don't get it. I didn't say anything about anything other than bicycle parts. Did you reply to the wrong part of the thread? -- Phil, Squid-in-Training |

Subject: Shimano does carbon now? Don't encourage them; next thing you know, they'd be selling frame tube sets made by their fishing pole division...with a peculiar integral bottle-cage mount that has a threaded collar and a sliding cleat...and matching handlbars with cork grips...and ring-shaped cable guides lashed to the tubes with lacquered thread... Antti Salonen wrote: Like with titanium, some people with no common sense evidently must have it everywhere. Titanium spokes were a prime example of such stupidity. If it's good for frames, it must be good for everything? That describes one of my Sunday club riding buddies to a T. He wasn't satisfied with a custom ti frame, so he... Replaced a brand new Record alloy crankset with Record carbon as soon as they were available... Replaced his Elite Ciussi cages with Record carbon (is this the most overpriced component in cycling?) When the POS broke two weeks after he got it, he bought another one... Replaced his Nucleon wheels with Corima aero carbon (LBS didn't tell him they are actually heavier). So, he runs super-skinny tires to save weight. Also blew the rent money on full-ti Record cassette... Refused to consider replacing the stupid-light ti pinch bolts on his stem with steel even after one snapped... Replaced his Concor saddle with Super SLR carbon fiber just to save weight (saddle sores and anal fissures changed his mind on that one). That is a great story, and paints a perfect picture of some of my roadie friends. One friend switched to DA 10 speed as soon as it was available even though his new DA 9 speed had only around 1K miles. He hated it that someone else was riding DA 10 (OEM) before he was. The real funny part is that he isn't extremely wealthy. When you have a friend like that, you keep in touch, because you want to be able to buy their leftovers. D-A Octalink cranks, Veloce 9v shifting an Ultegra cassette, 1500g Al frame. Funny, that is exacty what I do. I buy a lot of stuff used from people who move up to the latest components. Both of my boys race road, track, mountain, and cross so there is always plenty of stuff to purchase. |
