Best. Unaugural. Ever!

Thanks to all who attended. That was the most enjoyable Unaugural
that I can remember.

I think that's partly because we're getting used to the procedure, or
maybe because I allowed more time for preparation, but I think it was
mostly because of the attendees.

The trophies were won by:

Bill H. - Longest distance (2170km according to Google). I'm quite
humbled that Bill rode all the way from Townsville just to attend our
little pseudo-rally.

Aeek - Longest distance bicycle. A very dedicated 105km ride from
Aranda (he should be just about arriving home by now).

Jo -Hard luck. For dropping her bike at the gateway to Funkytown,
eclipsing Bamf's previous record by 250m.

Tim C. - Smallest capacity. I was a little surprised that he managed
this by arriving on a 500cc bike.

Moike - Oldest Bike + rider. 88 years.

BigIain - Most elaborate coffee apparatus (was there every any doubt?)

Thanks again to all, Minx and I are REALLY looking forward to the next
one, now! ;-)

Thanks BT, was an awesome Unaugural! I need to come a longer way through
dirt next time, even in the cold leaving this morning I was disappointed
when I saw the bitmen!

It was very very comfy, instead of being worn out after riding home I'm
feeling like I could ride another 500kms!

It even handled sliding around on all those dirt roads that Nev
navigated us via on the way up, although I did run out of rear brake at
one point on the dirt. It's surprisingly ok on dirt (well as long as
it's smoothish).

It came back good as gold after I slowed down and let it cool off though.

The bike *really* needs a clean now though

Yup. 1000km days easy on the thing. I find I need a throttle lock
on the 2nd day though.

First long ride I did on mine involved Thunderbolt's Way and about 5km
of clay mud roadworks. I was amazed at how well a big tyred bike
managed that.

It does get a bit thing on rough dirt yeah, I found that being big and
tall it would get a little disturbing if the front got out of shape on
big bits of gravel.

Hah! I understood why the Qlders may have been cold, but I didn't
quite understand why Victorians and Canberrians were cold.

However, I did determine lastnight that a sleeping bag, thermals, and
jacket that gets one through a Tasmanian summer (as cold as they are
in the Western Arthurs), is not *quite* sufficient for a Taragoian
late autumn.

I don't have much photographic evidence (this was all within 200km of
home: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spacela...7617854069827/ )
that I just rode 1100km+ (almost doubling what was already on the
clock of the gs500f), but gee, a nice glass of wine and a soft chair
is welcome! And mum cooked dinner when I visited (hey, I brought some
wine! Then proceeded to drink it), nicely defining the role that
mothers should take on mothers day.

Taralga road up to Oberon is *fun*. Drizzle is slightly less so, but
at least it didn't rain (I can't speak for those unfortunates who had
to go back to Sydney). The road to sofala is not bad either.

I arrived home slightly later than I planned for no particular reason
(other than enjoying a sleep in, in the tent). Towards the end of
daylight, I was bending the road rules in an effort to get as much
distance covered in pre-kangaroo times. Once dark came, I spent the
last 20km doing 70km an hour looking for beady little suicidal eyes
(there were an unfortunate number of flattened 'roos, echidas, wild
bores and possums on the road around Mudgee. And some live sheep
loose on the verge. But no wombats).
