There's a strong sense of community I think while being opened to the outside world. They pride themselves in being a separate Conch Republic, which means they want to feel different. There used to be a sign (not sure if it's still there) saying something to the effect of DON'T EVEN THINK OF SPEEDING, WE ARE NOT IN MAINLAND AMERICA. Also there's the fact that electric vehicles, scooters, and motorcycles coexist there. |

Suppose every message I and every other person here posted was cross- posted to a dozen or more newsgroups, related or not, in an effort to have our views read by as many people as possible. It would tend to negate the rationale for having newsgroups devoted to particular areas of interest - areas which, although never pure in content, are nevertheless identifiable, making people better able to filter out subjects they don't want to be deluged with (like non-Americans with endless rehashing of a single American 9/11 controversy). Look at the content of this newsgroup. Probably half of the exchanges are about something other than motorcycling. But you don't complain about that - in fact, you often contribute to it. Although plenty of them do, many of your posts have nothing to do with motorcycles. Who decides when the off topic limit is exceeded? It seems like you only complain about off topic posts when you don't approve of the off topic subject. If you do, then off topic is fine. That tends to reduce the credibility of your complaint. -- http://911research.wtc7.net http://www.journalof911studies.com/ http://www.911truth.org Here's what happens to steel framed buildings exposed to raging infernos for hours on end. http://911research.wtc7.net/wtc/anal...are/fires.html http://davesweb.cnchost.com/nwsltr69c.html On 9-11-01, WTC7, a 47 story steel framed building, which had only small, random fires, dropped in perfect symmetry at near free fall speed as in a perfectly executed controlled demolition. http://911research.wtc7.net/talks/wtc/videos.html http://wtc7.net/articles/FEMA/WTC_ch5.htm Ever wonder who benefits from the 700 MILLION U.S. taxpayer dollars spent each DAY in Iraq? http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0223-08.htm http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?list=type&type=21 "They are waging a campaign of murder and destruction. You can't find that in large urban areas such as Portland or the Bay, not because these places don't have better infrastructure, but simply because of their magnitude. In Chico, I'll recognize people I see on the streets everyday, and this is something that could never happen when I lived in Seattle and saw thousands of random faces on a weekly basis. I've learned that almost anybody I see is friends with a friend of my own, so you learn to be civil with people because they usually show back up later. You'll know quite a few of the people you see, as this is something that still happens in cities with tens of thousands of people... but I think that community breaks down somewhere in the hundreds of thousands. Rather than being part of the same community you're part of the same city, which can still run the gamut as far as the reactions it creates. Take Seattle for example where I don't find any sense of community, but people are still very polite as drivers and you'll often enough find the infamous situation where a few drivers are stopped at a four-way all waving each other on. There's a great civility to it, and a pride people take in being part of their city... but I don't think you can find the same sense of community that some large towns and small cities can find... it's just not possible with the vast numbers of people." *** I'm glad the Chikoko Revolution is working out all right. But there's another dimension about Key West that I hinted at. At any given time, there's possibly thousands of tourists in Key West, which are quick to leave behind the lion's suit, and behave like cooperative monkeys out to have fun. Perhaps more than a sense of community, there's A SENSE OF HUMANITY in the experience, where predators and prey all share. You know this story? THE KINGDOM OF THE LION, by Aesop THE BEASTS of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He was neither wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts, and drew up conditions for a universal league, in which the Wolf and the Lamb, the Panther and the Kid, the Tiger and the Stag, the Dog and the Hare, should live together in perfect peace and amity. The Hare said, "Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side of the strong." And after the Hare said this, he ran for his life. *http://911research.wtc7.net/talks/wtc/videos.html *http://wtc7.net/articles/FEMA/WTC_ch5.htm * Ever wonder who benefits from the 700 MILLION * U.S. taxpayer dollars spent each DAY in Iraq? *http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0223-08.htm *http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?list=type&type=21 * *"They are waging a campaign of murder and destruction. If it's on the subject you're addressing, you should first read my response in it's entirety.
