Death by motorist gets less than assault by cyclist?

QUOTE:
At an earlier hearing Stephen McKay, 35, from Dunfermline, pled guilty to
causing his death by careless driving.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, he was sentenced to 240 hours community service
and a 12 months driving ban.
ENDQUOTE

Well that's odd. If CDBCD is an offence in Scotland (as well as in England),
how come that wasn't the verdict in that other Scottish case?

Still, it'll all be grist to the mill in McKay's appeal against conviction
and/or sentence.
