OLN Live Broadcast Not Live?
I was watching the "Live" broadcast of the tour this morning and towards the
end I noticed that the peloton made up huge chunks of time during the commercial breaks after holding fairly steady. At one point Phil talked about the two attacks, in the 3 man break ,that happened during the break. Am I nuts, or did anyone else notice this? Could the broadcast be running 10 - 15 minutes behind the live feed? |

I generally tape it, and watch after my morning ride. However: If you watch it live, you could experiment. Velonews.com, for one example, has "Live Coverage" that is time stamped. Today's stage to Dax says the riders crossed the line at 5:16PM. There is a reference at 4:57PM about "an unhappy trio" and gestures being made after Knees attacked twice. If you can watch the TV and your PC, you could figure out whether the broadcast is delayed. Or, if you record the show, you should be able to correlate the elapsed time of the recording with the time stamps to see if they match up. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow. |

It usually seems to come out right to my early-morning fogged (west coast US) brain. Mark |

Could the broadcast be running 10 - 15 minutes behind the live feed? I watched on Eurosport with the Google Earth version running concurrently. The Eurosport coverage and the Google Earth coverage agreed, and you could identify scenery being passed on the television and on Google Earth (incidentally, a great way to watch the race). Knees attacked off the front of the lead group repeatedly from about 20Km out. The first time he did it the others were clearly angry with him. The second time he did it they basically refused to work with him and started deliberately messing about themselves. Consequently, the peloton ate them for lunch. -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ ;; It's dangerous to be right when the government is wrong. ;; Voltaire RIP Dr David Kelly 1945-2004 |

I had Eurosport on the television in the sitting room and (audio) on the internet feed in the lab - so I could work, but I could go through to the sitting room to watch when things got interesting. Problem was the internet audio was about two minutes behind the television. -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ ;; Usenet: like distance learning without the learning. |

OLN Live Broadcast Not Live?
I was wondering that myself, after hearing the Cycling.tv commentators
talk about McEwen's new celebration dance in Stage 6. Maybe my memory's shot, but I seem to recall going to the TV afterwards and witnessing the sprint finish as well as the subsequent "arm-swinging" to which they had referred. Come back if anything is unclear. The server's been a bit overloaded the last couple of days, but nevertheless it's a great way to understand the race... errr... no, what I actually mean is it's a lot of crap and you won't understand it anyway. Seriously. Really boring. And buggy. Buggy as hell. And did I mention the viruses? Do yourself a favour. Don't download it and whatever you do don't connect to the live coverage server. Please. I'm begging you... [sigh] Now it's going to be /more/ overloaded, isn't it? -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ 'graveyards are full of indispensable people' |
