Default Bicycle trip from Orlando to San Diego - Pictures, Video

Hi everybody!

Maybe somebody here remembers: one year ago I was planning a bicycle
trip through the south of the United States. Well, I did the trip
November-December 2005, arriving in San Diego January 1st 2006.
The route I took was (after a few days in NY): Orlando (Airport) -
Atlantic - Tallahassee - Mobile - Austin - El Paso - Tucson - Phoenix -
San Diego.
It was an incredible trip and I can only recommend this route to anyone
(the other way round would probably be easier though, because of the
prevailing winds from west), but you have to keep in mind, that it gets
really cold in the mountain and desert parts at night (usually below
freezing point) and you need good equipment if you want to camp out (I
spent a few of the colder nights in Motels).
I was on my own for the first 4000km, in Phoenix my girlfriend joined
me for the las 1000km.

I made a slideshow with music and stuff, you can download it he
http://www.nimmmi.ch/files/USA2005.exe
It's about 220mb and it is a standalone .exe file that plays on every
windows machine (sorry for the mac users). I made it with ProShow Gold
(which I really can recommend) and some help from Adobe Premiere.

Looking forward to comments/feedback!

Henning

You have an excellent eye for composition. It appears that you took
the time to notice the land you were traveling through and record more
than just the statistics of the trip. Good for you.

I am planning on a similar trip as soon as I retire. Leaving
Jaccksonville, Fl mid Aprril. At least that way I will miss most of
the cold weather. Im really looking forward to it. It is something
that has been in the works for years but I've never had the time to doi
it. It will be a solo ride on a recumbent, camping most of the way with
the occasional night in a motel.

Phil, I recommend you to use the maps by Adventure Cycling Association.
I followed their Southern Tier Route
(http://www.adv-cycling.org/routes/southerntier.cfm) most of the way
(backwards, though), and the maps are really great. Very detailed, a
lot of important information you wouldn't find on "normal" maps and a
very well chosen route (good roads with not too much traffic whenever
possible, wonderful landscapes...). Henning
