Default Need help with Buffalo to NYC

I'm a cyclist who in the next one year would like to train for and
organise a road bike ride to NYC from Buffalo,NY where I live at
present. Anyone having valuable insights on best/safe routes, places
for lodging, training for a ride that long (over a period of 7-8 days)
would do very well to share it with me. Any books pertaining to what
I'm looking for will also be a nice idea.

Thanks,

- B.D

You may want to consider riding the Erie Canal System from Buffalo to
Albany, then south to NYC. I haven't done it myself, but I'm
considering it next summer. Look here for a start, they also list maps
and printed guides.

I've traveled the route from Albany west twice, once on US 20 in 1968; the
other time on 5/31 in 1994. The 1994 trip was much less hilly.
