Fisher frame size from serial number?

Fisher does indeed measure center-top

You didn't say what the serial number is - some manufacturers include
the frame size in the serial number... worth a check. Also you could go
to your local Fisher dealer and take some measurements of both sizes of
frame. I think you're on good footing with the sales receipt, but this
guy could make a stink on your eBay seller's rating.

Thanks for your input. I considered going to my local Fisher dealer and
taking some measurements, not sure what the proper etiquette is though.

The seat tube does extend some distance above the top tube; maybe half
the top tube diameter + the seat tube extension would explain the 1.5"
difference.

I did look for any obvious relationship between the serial number and
the frame size and didn't notice any.

I emailed Fisher regarding the serial number and have yet to hear a
response. I'm not sure how responsive Fisher is, but hopefully I'll get
an answer either way.

You can go to a shop and measure merrily. They likely don't care..you can
simply say you're checking your measurements based on your old frame. No
big deal. From my days with Trek and most manufacturers, there was no
correlation between serial number and frame size. However, they will be
able to work back from the serial number to find the frame size for you I
suspect. Also, the shop you bought it from will likely have the size
printed on the invoice (your bill of sale). If the bill says "size large"
and buddy is unhappy, that's really not your fault. If he's so particular
about sizing, he should have insisted on you measuring the frame manually
(as I or most anyone who rides seriously would..) getting explicit C to C
measurements for top tube, seat tube and chainstay length. An unfortunate
lack of communication on his part.

Geoff: I don't think a shop is going to give you a bad time about measuring
the frame size of a couple bikes on their floor. I'd tell them the exact
truth; no need to make anything up (and people have a way of catching on
when you're making something up, and they almost always suspect something
worse than whatever the actual truth is).

Yeah, buy some Hammergel or something while you're there... bike
shops take that as a gesture of respect. Also, no frames in the world
are measured to the top of the seatpost extention. You're doing this
just in case he tries to give negative feedback on you so you'll have
a good response... otherwise I wouldn't make this an issue if your
buyer doesn't.
