Astana not invited to Giro...!!
I was a bit surprised to hear this, but it makes sense in a strange
way. I really don't blame the Giro oragnizers for leaving out teams
that show up merely to train or have a presence. After all Discovery
typically sent a b-team at best to the Giro.

Astana's past doping reputation still haunts the team as well. Johan's
decision to hire Kloden and his past decision to hire Basso raises
legitemete questions. A bunch of dopers like team High Road has no
place in racing today.

""some teams do not seriously target the Giro. "Contador [Astana] has
always said that all he is interested in is the Tour de France, and
for [Levi] Leipheimer, the Giro has always been about trying to
prepare for the Tour. If our race is not part of their plans, then we
just won't invite them."

"Zomegnan admitted that the doping problems of last year did
contribute to the decision, however, saying, "Astana weren't exactly
flawless last year. Okay, they have changed philosophy and their
management, but we have to wait and see. You don't just wake up in the
morning a changed person."

Despite using this logic on Astana and High Road, ""

dumbass,

why don't the GT organizers drop the passive aggressive BS and just
say they want to let the UCI and the teams know that they control the
sport ?

the doping history excuse is a lame one when LPR is invited even
though diluca is CURRENTLY SUSPENDED, and the teams of formerly
suspended dopers like axelsson and millar are invited.

In Hizark and companies world there is no distinction
between rumours of guilt and guilt.

And did Bruyneel actually "hire" Kloden? I thought the UCI rules
required that Astana's existing rider contracts be honored, and
Kloden's contract goes until the end of 2008, I think.

In the world of Pro Cycling a teams reputation does matter. So
therefore a riders reputation plays a big role.

Ah yes, the start of the slippery slope towards exhuming McCarthy.

I bet Pound would have liked to be around in hose days.
