My own persoanl rain cloud.
I took advantage of the fine weather yesterday to do a half century - Leeds,
Wetherby, Rufforth, Acomb, York, Selby (via the cycle way). Six or seven miles out from Selby I could see a huge cloud and precipitation and thinking that I'd be skirting it, pressed on. How wrong I was! It went for me! I could swear it homed in on me and dumped it's contents. It wasn't pleasant as I didn't take any waterproofs as there was no indication of rain according to the local forecasts. I couldn't face riding home - a further 25 miles in the deluge so I caught a train back to Leeds. During the 3/4 hour wait the weather picked up and I thought all was well. Wrong! As the train approached Leeds the sky darkened in a very familiar way and it started to pour down just in time for me to get off the train. Still, it was a good ride and I discovered that the Netto bike tops go some way to reducing wind chill while riding sopping wet. |

Ack - the one thing I dislike as much as a nasty headwind with a chill in it,
is being rained on when it's heavy rain and I've not got a waterproof with me. Glad you enjoyed the ride anyhow! There's a character in one of Douglas Adams's books (the truck driver in 'Dirk Gently...' I think) who is a rain god. As I recall, "...he did not know this, but the clouds did. They wanted to be near him, to cherish him, to water him..." Apologies if I got the quotation wrong, but were you the model for this character? -- Cheers, Al |

I did 40 miles yesterday and the last half mile was wet, trashing the bike. I would have made it home in a dry state had it not been for some sodding temporary traffic lights in the last village which failed to detect my presence...so I sat there for 5 mins until a car turned up to activate them. |

Time to start wearing wind-proof tops made out of tinfoil. Actually, this isn't an entirely bad idea. The sort of metallising they now use in crisp packets must surely be transferrable to textiles... -- Cheers, Euan Gawnsoft: http://www.gawnsoft.co.sr Symbian/Epoc wiki: http://html.dnsalias.net:1122 Smalltalk links (harvested from comp.lang.smalltalk) http://html.dnsalias.net/gawnsoft/smalltalk |
