Open letter to all MTB'ers
Westgate Park- We are extremely fortunate to be able to utilise such a
fantastic venue such as Westgate Park for our Kona Dirt Crits, however it requires the co-operation of everyone involved; be it on Thursday night at the event or at any other time you may be riding down at the park. It is vital that you remain on the multi-user trails that we have been granted permission to ride. The multi-user trails are awesome and there is no need to use other areas of the park for MTB'ing. Failure to stick to the permitted multi-user trails by anyone will result in the permit being revoked. It's in your hands. There are other users of the park and we need to be mindful of them and their enjoyment of Westgate Park. Does that mean that riding the Thursday night course at any other time is out? I can understand that near the carpark the single track comes onto the pathway from a decline without much warning & then travels a short distance on manicured grass (which wears a groove in time), but taken with some caution I thought it was OK? The track out the rear of the park travels through quite a bit of disused paddock area which doesn’t look like it used for anything else at all. -- Marx SS |

In total agreement with you there! Friends of mine have been involved with the long term development with Westgate Park, refer to a recent segment of George Negus Tonight. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/netw/...327V095_21.htm More background info on the Westgate Park Project, http://www.ecocentre.com/westgate/westgate-project.htm I can fully understand people wanting to ride the tracks in the park, but please keep it nice. Aggro and disrespect will close access to these great MTB tracks so close to the CBD. Put it simply, no rights without responsibilities, no responsibilities without rights. -- cfsmtb low earth orbit around Melbourne, Australia |

Riding the course at any other time is OK! Just ensure that the course is the only tracks you ride on. It appears that some people have taken a bit of licence with riding anywhere they like. If your in doubt, please check out the course on a Thursday night and ride around whilst it's all marked out. -- snozza |
