Default Did Phonak Know?

The timing is interesting, is it not?

August 18 -- Tyler Hamilton wins gold at Athens
August 27 -- Cyclingnews.com reports Phonak makes an offer to Floyd Landis
September 21 -- Tyler's failed blood tests at Vuelta and A sample at Athens

Why did Phonak suddenly express interest in Landis at the end of the
Olympics? I have to wonder if Phonak probably knew Hamilton failed his
Athens blood test, and they went shopping for a domestique with GT
potential as a backup to replace Hamilton if he got suspended. If Phonak
was informed privately of Tyler's "A" result, why did or would the IOC
withhold the result from the public until the Vuelta results came out?

ICO would hold the results from the public till they had the results of
the B test.
IOC notified UCI (the federation for that particular sport), USOC
(Tyler's Olympic team). Presumably, USOC would have notified Tyler.
With no olympic standing, Phonak would not have been notified by IOC.
If Tyler or UCI notified Phonak, they might have known about the Athens
test, but they appeared surprised. Landis appeared to have more
potential than Tyler anyway, so it seemed a good move on their part,
particularly with Tyler having only one or two years left on his tour
career. Speculation during the TDF that Landis would be some other
teams number one next year.

The Athens test was disclosed with the Vuelta poistiive A, UCI
apparently not as concerned about privacy pending the B confirmation.

Bobby - you got some weird aversion to capital letters? Regardless, let's
hear your explanation why the IOC kept mum until Vuelta announced.

IOC claimed it took them that long to get a panel of "experts" together
to decide the test was poasitive. IOW, there is some subjectivity in
determinging the result.

Also, major teams need more than one GC rider these days if they intend
to contest more than one GT.
