Jay, did you ever live in Cameron Park? I live near there.

I'm tellin' ya, and you can quote me on this, the Eastern Sierra climb is one hell of a lot steeper than the Western Sierras are!

I was giving Joerg a hard time about his epic adventures of daring-do on trails of incomparable difficulty and danger. . . in Cameron Park.

No, I've never lived in Cameron Park (which is western Sierra foothills -- I've flown in a few times), but I'm from California and used to ride in the Sierra regularly. I've ridden the Death Ride twice, including a one-time-only six pass version, and I've done a lot of the east-west passes from Tioga on up. There is some spectacular climbing, but oddly enough, nothing that makes the top world climbs. Onion Valley down south is much more difficult, but I've never done that -- and am too old to try.

I did Onion Valley ~20 years ago. Granted, I was young and stronger, but it seemed like a fairly routine, but long, climb. Nothing too steep. As the link notes, much of the climbing is before the "real" climb starts. As a sea-level guy, the altitude was the biggest issue.
