D.A. Tampered With Video Evidence in RNC Critical Mass
=v= This is major. Page One of today's _New_York_Times_, and
with the extraordinary use of video on the _Times_ website: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/12/nyregion/12video.html Executive summary: To prosecute a defendant who was arrested at the New York City Critical Mass in August (during the RNC), the D.A.'s office edited out footage from N.Y.P.D. videotape, which proved the guy innocent. _Jym_ |

How could _you_ possibly know that? There's the obvious innocent-until-proven-guilty stuff that doesn't seem to coincide with your agenda (whatever that might be). But if some evidence was tampered with, what makes you think that all of the rest is, pardon the expression, bulletproof? CM's goal is to make public demonstrations (akin to a strike by a union) to harass (strong word, but it's true) governmental agencies into accepting the need for more bike transportation. The governmental agencies harass right back by arresting masses of people. R |

If that's what happened, I'd say the DA should be removed from office
and tried for obstruction of justice. Any DA who tries to convict an innocent citizen - a person he knows is innocent - should do time in a state prison. =v= Yeah, I saw that happen once in _Law_and_Order_. The cops in that episode were honest and competent, too. Escapist fantasy. =v= They're pinning it on an (unnamed) underling and claiming that it was unintentional. When it comes to accountability, competence in the public interest) in NYC, the buck stops elsewhere. _Jym_ |
