(snip) Zebee Zebee, The heaviest AyUp battery is less than 140 grams. I suspect the weight difference between a dynamo hub and an average mtb hub (to pick one on the heavy side) is more than that. And, what do you use for a light when you need to do some mechanical work on the bike in the night? rgds, 20cents |

Nothing more "exciting" than finding out at 0400 that one's rear light is rooted and one needs to get home to a hot shower and a warm bed. A small ziplock bag (or any other reasonable quality transparent plastic) over the light and held on with a rubber band (usually the red post office ones that I pick up) solves that problem. Hm, what a simple solution! Never tort of that, believe it or not but given the pickling my brain has receieved over the years, that is hardly surprising. But I did manage to figure out that Gladwrap is another possible solution - tied down appropriately of cos. Your comment on the spray from the rear wheels is noted as well. |

Soggy glad wrap is really depressing and has this uncanny ability to slide away Your comment on the spray from the rear wheels is noted as well. You could try a carbide lamp. A lump of calcium carbide and when the water hits it you get acetylene. Ignite the acetylene where it passes out of a small hole and you have a lamp. Reflector behind the flame. Maybe a bit old fashioned... T. |

Google turned up this http://wasg.iinet.net.au/lampfaq.html, which mentions this company http://www.airliquide.com.au/ When I was a kid I lived in the banana growing area of northern NSW. Acetylene is used for controlled ripening of bananas, so some packing sheds had calcium carbide to produce the acetylene. The typical packing shed was a pretty flimsy thing made of corrugated iron and whatever timber was handy, and was built perched on the slope up among the bananas. One local made a small mistake with naked flame and the packing shed (and stored packing cases) became so many matchsticks, and together with the iron was spread over the local area. No blood no foul. As for the nearby banana plants... think Tunguska. |
