There are also more traffic lights and bus/cycle lanes than in the
1970s, which restrict traffic flow, also more motorways mean fewer
pedestrian deaths.


I tend to treat the road toll stats with some caution though, as the
stats are easily massaged by the government to look better. It also
ignores the fact that road crashes are a major cause of death among
young adults.


Some stats are not easy to massage eg numbers killed.
True young adults form most of the "testosterone brigade"

Correct and that is why the insurance for a young man of 17 can be £5000 a
year at least, whereas with Saga I pay just £200.
