Default Can sidewall tire bubbles break spokes?

Replaced a broken spoke on a rear 700C tire and noticed while the wheel
was true, there was a rear wobble afterwards caused by a worn sidewall
giving way to a bubble.

Got me thinking, as I have no recollection of a hard rear impact with a
curb or hole, could lateral stresses on that wheel caused by the bubble
have snapped the spoke? Was a 36 spoke rear with a 230 lb rider.
