I'm convinced I look like 50 too. Not sure who agrees with me.

All I know is my peers all look really old these days.

Most of the people I worked for are now buried so I can't get any references. And I'm older than they were.

Imperial College in London has a very interesting set of numbers on which the red baseline is something I mentioned the other day: the dearth of isolation facilities (or indeed anywhere near enough unoccupied beds) in Western nations, and the important matter of age distribution of fatalities that Tom Kunich has been trying to bring to your attention, only to be viciously shouted down by the usual mindless RBT scum. Here's the Imperial paper in full:
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imp...16-03-2020.pdf

For the mathematically challenged, Ann Coulter explains the latter matter in a couple of sentences:

*According to the dire estimates of the Imperial College of London -- whose assessment we are following -- excepting those with underlying medical conditions, the new coronavirus is far less deadly than the seasonal flu to anyone under 60 years old. It’s no worse than the 2017-18 flu season for those in their 60s.

"But it's five to 10 times more deadly than the regular flu for those in their 70s and 80s, respectively."

Not a stupid question at all.

A former RBT contributor is fit as anyone, actively cycling
in his retirement[1] and as sharp as ever. But he just so
happens to be over 70 and Italian.

Yesterday the Italians announced that no one over 70 will be
admitted to any hospital. Which seems quite arbitrary given
the lard bombs waddling around ready to die from obesity
related maladies at 40 or 50 years old. Then again it's not
my decision.

Isn't socialized medicine the dream of every European?

It's very different from one European country to another.
I'm sure our European contributors can elucidate. And
probably will.

The current coronavirus pandemic will highlight the failing of all socialised medicine, that it is a rationing system without any limit to demand.

One has to wonder how deep the enthusiasm will run after such an urgent demonstration of the inevitable end-result of all socialized medicine systems, which is triage.

BTW, someone should explain to Frankie-boy that capitalism makes provision for government undertaking the capital cost and upkeep of undertakings for the common good (say building roads) which private capital cannot or will not undertake. I don't volunteer: I have better things to do with my time than educate a Polish peasant.

Another hopeful thing is that here the ambulances carry machinery that once upon a time only big teaching hospitals had, with the ambulance staff trained in their use. So if you have, for instance, a transient ischemic attack, which looks like a heart attack but is normally somewhere between a fainting fit and a stroke, they can decide in the ambulance still parked in your driveway if you're in poor enough state to require the hospital, where in most of these cases the physicians will find no evidence they can act on (that's why the event is called transient), or would be better off with a good sleep in the comfort of your own home.

The latter; this is why I'm not afraid about my dad who's 79 but
looks like 65.

I'm 49 and my Indian colleagues have said I look like 35 ;-)

A couple years ago, I was entering an event and asked for the "senior"
price. The ticket taker said "Really?? How old are you?" When I told
him, he said he guessed I was in my 50s. IOW, he was off by perhaps 15
years.

Could this be a beneficial effect of bicycling?

I knew my wife's father only as a man in his eighties. He greatly
enjoyed hearing that he couldn't possibly be as old as he actually was.
Some of those expressions were of genuine surprise.

When he died after a long decline, and shortly after his ninetieth
birthday party, they sent his body to the crematorium. Later, the
family heard that the cremator called up the medical examiner, saying
"the death certificate says 90 years of age, but this guy can't possibly
be that old".

But he wouldn't have made a comment if it was Joe Biden who looks 100.

This was my would-be father in law, a man I loved and respected,
why do you have to turn everything into an insult? Do you really want
everyone that knows you to despise you?

I didn't realize your father in law was what again? Joe Biden or an
undertaker in charge of a crematorium?

So you're trying to antagonize everyone you can. What do you gain from
that?

Getting Killfiled or ignored by everyone who doesn't want to see his rantings?

Since you seem to think you ride a lot, what is your mileage for the year? I have more than 800 miles despite the rain and cold and almost 30,000 feet of climbing. Do you have any numbers or is your fake posting name nothing more than a front?

Radey, for the life of me I cannot see where you think I was saying
anything about your father-in-law. I was speaking of the undertaker
who complimented your father-in-law's looks.

Were you simply looking for a reason to be huffy?

Why did you drag Joe Biden into the matter at all?

Why don't you answer Tom's question, Radey? Here it is again:

Err 800/(31+28+21) = 10 miles per days. Strenuous Hey!
At an average gradient of 30,000 ft/(800mlx5,280ft/ml) = 1/140th of a
foot per mile. Err, is that an average of 1/10th inch per mile?

So in other words, you ride 5 miles down to the shops each day to have a
coffee and bun, then pick up the daily milk and newspaper.
