All I know is my peers all look really old these days. Mark J. Most of the people I worked for are now buried so I can't get any references. And I'm older than they were. |

Isn't socialized medicine the dream of every European? The current coronavirus pandemic will highlight the failing of all socialised medicine, that it is a rationing system without any limit to demand. One has to wonder how deep the enthusiasm will run after such an urgent demonstration of the inevitable end-result of all socialized medicine systems, which is triage. BTW, someone should explain to Frankie-boy that capitalism makes provision for government undertaking the capital cost and upkeep of undertakings for the common good (say building roads) which private capital cannot or will not undertake. Another hopeful thing is that here the ambulances carry machinery that once upon a time only big teaching hospitals had, with the ambulance staff trained in their use. So if you have, for instance, a transient ischemic attack, which looks like a heart attack but is normally somewhere between a fainting fit and a stroke, they can decide in the ambulance still parked in your driveway if you're in poor enough state to require the hospital, where in most of these cases the physicians will find no evidence they can act on (that's why the event is called transient), or would be better off with a good sleep in the comfort of your own home.

He greatly enjoyed hearing that he couldn't possibly be as old as he actually was. Some of those expressions were of genuine surprise. When he died after a long decline, and shortly after his ninetieth birthday party, they sent his body to the crematorium. Later, the family heard that the cremator called up the medical examiner, saying "the death certificate says 90 years of age, but this guy can't possibly be that old". But he wouldn't have made a comment if it was Joe Biden who looks 100. This was my would-be father in law, a man I loved and respected, why do you have to turn everything into an insult? Do you really want everyone that knows you to despise you? I didn't realize your father in law was what again? Joe Biden or an undertaker in charge of a crematorium? So you're trying to antagonize everyone you can. What do you gain from that? Getting Killfiled or ignored by everyone who doesn't want to see his rantings? Cheers |

I was speaking of the undertaker who complimented your father-in-law's looks. Were you simply looking for a reason to be huffy? Why did you drag Joe Biden into the matter at all? At an average gradient of 30,000 ft/(800mlx5,280ft/ml) = 1/140th of a foot per mile. Err, is that an average of 1/10th inch per mile? So in other words, you ride 5 miles down to the shops each day to have a coffee and bun, then pick up the daily milk and newspaper. |
