QUOTE 1:
Officers were chasing a suspect on a bike through Elswick on Thursday
evening when the man fell and suffered serious injuries.
ENDQUOTE 1

Presumably the fugitive was on the bike, though you can't be certain due
to the way it is written.

QUOTE 2:
Colby Court just off Elswick Road was cordoned off by police as an
ambulance arrived at the scene and an investigation took place. The
29-year-old was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle
and is currently in a critical, but stable condition.

One passerby said there appeared to be 10 police cars on the scene close
to Newcastle Central fire station. An investigation has been launched to
establish what happened to the man.
ENDQUOTE 2

???

I thought the report had already said what happened to him: "...the man
fell and suffered serious injuries...".

What makes you think the cyclist was unwashed?

Mind you...

In what way is a colony of bicyclists like a colony of seals?
You smell 'em before you see 'em.

Personal hygiene has more to do with geographical location than mode of transport.
'People' from Liverpool are taught that bathing is for poofters and when you want to go somewhere you steal a car.
