Update: Trent Dalton's CMQ Weekend Magazine article
Dear all,
I sent a quick e-mail to Trent Dalton congratulating him on his article and suggesting he keep at cycling if he can. I pointed him to the old thread so he could get an idea of what we thought of his exploits. I hope he won't mind but here's a snippet of his reply to me: snip Mate, I thought 80 minutes to go 16km for me (a puppy-fatted former smoker) was an electrifying pace. But it seems, in the cycling world, I am travelling at a snail pace!! That was 80 minutes along endless hills, stopping several times to avoid certain heart attack. But you will be happy to know that I am now, in all honesty, looking for a bike to ride regularly. I have a suspicion, in fact, that my wife will buy me a bike for Christmas. I really felt something special in my bike ride. Really. It felt amazing zooming past all that traffic. It really was the best way to go, that's for sure. I now see what you all have seen for so many years. /snip -- Bean "I've got a bike You can ride it if you like It's got a basket A bell that rings And things to make it look good I'd give it to you if I could But I borrowed it" Pink Floyd Remove "yourfinger" before replying |

You make some very inspiring and insightful points and you'll be happy to know that I am now, in all honesty, as we speak, searching for a bike to journey deeper into the wonderful world of cycling. I really do think it's an amazing thing and a great way to beat the traffic. Nothing beats it really. If I can get myself a bit fitter I'll be doing fine! I'll take your advice and try it for a few weeks. What can I lose, except maybe a few kilograms hey?? +++++ Best of luck to him :-) -- Cheers Euan |

Good one guys! I know a few people weren't entirely impressed with Trent's article, but I knew that with some encouragement, we could show him the light. Hopefully, he'll get into it and do the (good) journo thing :-) -- LotteBum |

Better still, he might get in Mike O'Connor's ear. Mike O'Connor? An anti-bicycle attitude doesn't necessarily go with the name, since my mate Mike O'Connor is taking over my fixing-donated-bicycles-at-the-Red-Cross volunteer gig when I move back to Canberra in a month... (He's also going on the GVBR this year). BTH |
