Adopt-a-highway

I started cycling to get around town. I wonder if anyone else knows
anything about "adopt-a-highway" signs I see sometimes. Just curious.

Organizations (usually local businesses or non-profits around here) sign
up to keep that section of the road clean, in return for getting their
name on the sign. In RI, if they don't want to do the work of cleaning
it, they can pay the state to do it, and still keep their name on the
sign.
