Question on carbon fiber bikes

Hello Group, I just wanted to get a few opinions on the Carbon Fiber bikes. In particular the http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3673462 989&r d=1&ssPageName=WDVW just curious on any pros or cons. Any infor is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pros: I can't find any. Cons: Everything, and then some. The listing is quite ambiguous. Once you skip past 5mb of ads for other bikes, you get a look at the "Carbon Fiberglass" bike they're selling. They show two distinctly different bikes, one is yellow with aero rims, and the other is black with non-aero rims. Not that the rims would matter with this bike, but it does demonstrate the quality of the listing (and quite possible the quality of the bike). The saddles are different too. Is the one on the black bike faux carbon fiber (cheezy for sure), or real carbon fiber (might as well sit on the bare seatpost)? They won't allow you to pick up, they only ship. What kind of bike business is it? Legitimacy is questionable at best. Examining the bike further, you'll see that the components are all generic or department-store-level Shimano. What is "Suppression" suspension? The weight is listed at 31 pounds. For the same price, you can get a much better, real bike weighing the same at a LBS. It will be assembled properly, well warrantied, made from good parts, and so on. The box behind the bike says "Net weight: 78kgs". I sure hope that's the weight for a box containing 5 bikes; 78kgs is 172 pounds. Probably worse. how confident are you in your bike building skills? You will need to build the bike after they ship it to you. How well you build it will directly impact the comfort and safety of the bike. No amount of skill and experience would make me confident in the safety of that bike. -- Rick Onanian |

Note how the 8 is smaller than the 7. At 17.2 pounds, that would be the lightest mountain bike I've ever heard of. If that's what the box says, I'd guess it comes shipped in multiple boxes. -- Rick Onanian |
