and that would leave what, no brakes? i'm fairly sure that would be an
interesting ride.

My track bike has no brakes, what's the big deal?

IIRC, track bikes are meant for just that, to go on a track. there is no
real sudden obstacle other than other riders/racers coming in front of
you and falling.

I have never ridden my track bike on a velodrome. Its always used on the
road. There are more than just other riders to watch out for.

but on trails, there are things like hills that may require some way to
control speed.

I often ride my mountainbike without touching the brakes, even in the tight
and twisty singletrack that we have here, you can control your bike without
ever having to use brakes, depending on the trail that you're riding.

but then, i may be way off. after all, i have no knowledge at all,
right?

He also has a gear. More cheating?

Once you get to really know your bike and the trails you ride, you can
control the speed at which you ride, you can control how you corner and
handle the technical aspects of the trail. Its difficult for me to really
say how its done, I just really do it without thinking about it. Once you
catch a flow going, brakes only slow you down.

Nice,

The mind serves properly as a window glass rather
than as a reflector, that is, the mind should give
an immediate view instead of an interpretation of the world.
