A CYCLIST has captured the dramatic moment oncoming city traffic drives towards him while he is in the cycle lane.

We recently reported on taxis parked illegally on double yellows, forcing cars into the bus and cycle lanes.

The issue first came to light last year when Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS), which handles taxi licensing on behalf of Worcester City Council, stepped up its pursuit of taxi drivers parking illegally.

A new video posted by Andy Foster shows how he cycles underneath the bridge over Foregate Street, vehicles overtake taxis that appear to be parked illegally and a bus.

As they are in the bus and cycle lane they give him little space in a potentially dangerous manoeuvre that took place on August 29.

Andy Foster said: “You’ll see from the video cars are forced to cross into the bus/cycle lane on the other side of the road.

"Following my complaint, there will be an increase in the number of enforcement visits to this area, at various times of the day.�

A city council spokesman told us last month: “Worcester City Council is responsible for the licensing of taxis in the city.

"We take matters such as over-ranking and illegal parking seriously, and will issue penalty points or a fine to drivers when an offence is proven.

The Worcester News also contacted Worcestershire County Council to ask if Worcestershire Highways would look at improving the road for cyclists, but the authority redirected us to the city council's statement adding it would cover what they would want to say on the matter.

A city council by-law means taxi drivers who park outside of a designated taxi rank when it is full and do not move to an empty one could be fined up to £500 and handed four penalty points.
