As always, thanks for your efforts.

I was thinking that if you were still open to modifications, here's one
idea. Your comparisons are to the previous stage but there's one section
that just gives the status rather than the change in status -- that's the
overall standing section, which looks like this:

Top 3 and favourites standings :
1 Vincenzo Nibali 10.44.00
2 Ivan Basso 0.13
3 Valerio Agnoli 0.20
.....
7 Vladimir Karpets 0.39
.....
9 David Millar 0.45


One way to combine them is to put the standing and time gap for the previous
stage in parentheses. I find that I often look at the standings and then
scan upward to find the change from the previous stage.
