Default Lance movie

Some day Hollywood will make a movie about Lances's 7 Tour de France
victories. We all know, as cyclists, that it will bomb at the box office.
Let's face it, if you arn't a cyclist you don't have a clue about what's
going on in the TDF. So I don't expect the movie to be a high budget one,
but I hope, and really pray, that Hollywood doesn't star Robin Williams as
Lance.

The real story is about his cancer recovery and the first TdF win. I can't
imagine a movie covering multiple Tours.

Lance would probably want to play the lead role himself. Trek would love it!
I agree it would bomb.

That would be fiction, then. I think he'll consider himself lucky enough
to get 6. 7 -- no way.

I agree. If he gets the 6th, he'll probably retire from TdF's.

He recently announced he would ride two more TdFs.

Hollywood is all about virtual victories. In the Lemond movie that is
coming out, he wins 10.

This is not true at all. I can give plenty of examples of athletes whose
stories transcend the sport. If the film is produced well, it will sell
plenty of tickets and may even have a significant and permanent effect on
the popularity as a participant sport and or as a spectatot sport. The sport
of cycling can only get more popular in the US. Sometimes things do change
and it is events like this that cause those changes.

I don't know. I just moved away from the little town of Anderson, SC where
a retarded man who was the local high school football team mascot became the
focus of a movie called "Radio." It's done quite well at the box office.
If this story can work for Hollywood, the Lance story certainly can. It's
all in the screenplay and directing. (Of course, the Hollywood version of
Radios's life and the actual facts bear little resemblance.)

I can envision a really awful Lance movie, but if it's done right, I can
envision a pretty good movie. Based on the things I hear about Lance, he's
such a control freak that he'll probably dabble in it to the point that it's
completely insufferable.
