Default Sram vs. shimano derailleurs

I thought only Shimano made derailleurs until I found Sram.

Sram prices are much higher.

Are they that much better?

They are nowhere as good. Campagnolo makes component groups. They are pretty good but expensive. Shimano is the way to go.

Prices are roughly comparable for competitive purposes/quality.

SRAM doesn't make a Tourney level product.

In my opinion SRAM makes absolute junk. The metals are too soft and they sure as hell have very poor machining. You should see how a SRAM road crank wore the off-side bearing oblong in less than a year.
